Pilot Tank

Today's pen of interest: The pilot tank. It uses the same nib as the pilot 78G, same feed too.

of course it writes as well as that legendary pen but it comes with a larger capacity.

The interesting part of this pen, it is an Eyedropper. One observation about pilot tank as an eyedropper: it doesn't burp at temperature difference and low volume. And its not due to the feed. The key is that sponge like material at its end.

Looks like pilot did have a quick fix for ED less that troublesome VAC type contraption that some other Japanese maker invented.

and if you want to drastically increase its volume, just remove that sponge like material. It does pose a problem when cleaning the pen with that device. cleaning can take.....forever :p

Of course, if you really want to use a converter, it can be converted to a converter based pen.

 1) it is a dropper type. the volume is quite big already, but it can be stretched further. there is a black plastic thing in the body of the pen, remove it, and you get roughly 2.5cm more of the body's volume. it doesn't leak even if you remove it since the plastic does not have any holes.

2). If you want it to use a con20 or con50(con70's diameter is too big, or you want to use a cartridge, just remove that rubber thing from the pen body. the converter can be inserted. there is no leakages as well.

International cap for international cartridges

well, I have demonstrated that the daiso international cartridges is resealable and reusable. some people were confused, but others probably felt that it is too difficult. a universal cap is more convenient. a reusable cap. cheap and good.

I have finally managed to find the cheap, good and perfect match item for this contraption. Costs next to nothing, helps save the earth, and save yourself.

using a spent ink from zebra..., i don't even remember when i got this pen, nor have any recollection of using this pen, anyhow it was lying on my table as resource, and it tried. it works.

so to make it, just follow the pictures in number. it is easy, so very easy. please at least read step 4. :p

Hopefully i have solved this problem of reusing cartridges in the most simplest way. Am I the first ? haha :) at least i have gotten a generic solution before i close my eyes.

1) the item
 
 2) cut a piece out.
 
 3) test fit. it should be 2mm above the mouth of the cartridge. do not apply silicon grease. it should fit perfectly.
 
4) now this is critical, with the cap still in, hot glue the cap. force some hot glue into the mouth so that it forms a spike. this spike will ensure there is no leakage from the cartridge. it forms the first level of defense. 
 5) once the glue cools, remove the cover.
 
 6) the internal will have a spike.
 
 7) testing with some diluted ink
 

8) close examination.

 

Comparison between Muji FP and Ohto Tasche

Well, for the record, i have the whole set of Ohto Tasche stashed somewhere. but i still bought one more because well, uhm....nvm. any reason is a wrong reason.

anyway ....

They used to say the muji FP is made to look like Ohto Tasche, in fact, they are made by Ohto. while i am too lazy to verify that, but it seems that their parts are not swappable. can't change the cap, can't change the body. not ever the nib and feed can exchange.

and, if you take a look, their nib and feeds are different. in this case, the muji nib and feed are much better.

Daiso and Ohto Tasche comparison

Not all Iridium point nib are made equal. both daiso and Ohto Tasche comes with IP nib. both nib will fit each other's feed. but underneath, the Ohto's feed comes with 2 drains unlike the Daiso's one drain. The Tasche's feed is supposed to be better.

well, it can work with any hooded nib to be exact. so, here goes....

First, this poor pen broke into 2. it's new. After 3 rounds of repair and surgery i decided that although it seems fine, it is too weak to be used in the field, similar to murphy. It's alive, but dead if he is just stitched up and left to recover on its own.

That's what came to my mind when this started. Thus, it is time to do the impossible.

Taking the most important units of the pen, the nib and the feed, i had it fixed to a new body, demonstrator and "state of the art". now doing the necessary tests to remove all leakages. the initial testings are promising. and like robo, this pen needs a couple of special tools to refill and ink, but other than that, i'm quite sure it will write very well.

 well, i am running out of time. so i skipped the 125 tests, or as Tony Stark puts it, skips the spinning clocks, and jumps straight into field testing. Thankfully it is working. so, another red leaf ballpoint pen turned into a fountain pen. This is the second redleaf ballpoint pen invention. Oh, that syringe is the refill tool, and it refills from the back, somewhat like a parker 61, except it takes only a second to do so.

There are a lot of confusion between these 3 models, for the sake of comparison, let's just do this

pilot MR Metropolitan international= the one that uses international cartridge (bottom)
pilot MR metropolitan = the one that uses pilot cartridge (middle)
pilot cocoon = the one only sold in japan.(top)

Yup, no difference.....

The nib is the give away. cocoon has dots instead of lines.

All caps are made in japan....same wording, same font.

 The international version uses an international converter. note that pilot DID NOT make a standard international converter for it. all else looks the same....

The feed for the MR and the Cocoon is the same. the feed for the MR international looks totally different.
