Ezra and Cyrus

Is it better to be beautiful, or useful? And I say, is it too much to ask for both? With that in mind, I humbly present the crown jewel, of kerry’s customized fountain pens. It is the first pen that fuses science, technology and art into one pen.

Collectors says, the best pen to keep is one which you do not open and use. I now respectful disagree for this pen. I actually will prefer, the pen that you can use, all the time. That’s how I used a week ago, that’s how I used it just an hour ago, and it’s worked out pretty well so far. Find the courage to pick up this pen, start writing with it, I promise you, you will never take your eyes off it.

Ladies and gentleman, finally, the pinnacle of my work, Ezra and Cyrus. They are here because of the blessings from the LORD.

Each pen is made differently. The first pen is made from crystals. Only crystals can give that glimmer like stars in the sky, and these crystals are further special treated to enhance their shine. The second pen is made with glass beads. Simple glass beads. The sharp edges of the crystals contrasting with the rounded edges of the glass beads give different but equally stunning living pictures.

Most pen bodies are visual art from the outside. Paintings, layering and celluloid have visually stunning effects and depths. However, the art is static and the depth is from outside in. This pen’s art is dynamic; it changes with the ink color in the pen, It changes with the movement of the pen, it changes when the stones or glasses insides decide to change direction, it changes with the level of ink of the pen, it changes even by the way you store the inked pen. The depth is not just within that pen, it is not restricted by the pen body, for the pen body is the container of the art. The depth is from inside out, the way the stones shine, glimmers, glitters. They are near the surface, far from the surface, even on the other side of the pen body.

Though being visually stunning is a major factor, there must a use for the crystals and the glass beads. We all know eyedropper pens have huge volume, sometimes, too huge. And they run in the problem of leaking when there is just too much air in them. By filling the space with crystals or glass beads, it reduces some ink volume of the pen, but at the same time, it also absorbs and dissipates the heat from the hand such that the heat lost from the pen is equal to the heat gain from the hand. That prevents any leakages. Naturally, to ensure smooth ink flow, there is a special device included in the pen with all these stones and gems. For that, I will let the pen maker master figure that out themselves. Of course, there are simple concerns like if the ink will be affected, and subsequent the feed. My answer, sometimes you got to run before you can walk. And the breaking point exists only when broken. And the end result? working like a dream. The inks in the pens are the simple Pelikan green and hero carbon black.

This pen is made with no normal whistles. Based on a kakuno, it uses a normal plastic body, and a plastic test-tube. It doesn’t come with a gold nib either. But that is beauty of it. The beauty is on the inside of the pen, not on the outside. You can change the nib, the feed and the body easily, to another new nib, new feed or new body, or even a gold or stub nib. It doesn’t matter. The pen still looks stunning. And if the body has scratches, well, change a new one. This pen is meant for use and display. It is meant to be the main course and deserts.

Looking at the pens, in comparison to me, I am a tragedy. For lack of a better option I am their guardian for now. If I fail to make my mark, I am sure they are going to donate me to city college. One day they will find their own rightful owner.

 The original un-inked version:

After inking, the magic comes. Compared with a real celluloid pen.
